How this conversion works
Every weight unit has an exact, fixed equivalent in kilograms (for example, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kilograms exactly). Converting from one unit to another multiplies the value by the first unit's kilogram equivalent, then divides by the second unit's.
Examples
1 kilogram = 1,000 grams. 1 pound = 16 ounces. 1 metric ton = 1,000 kilograms. 1 kilogram ≈ 2.20462 pounds.
