Grade Calculator

Find the grade needed on a final exam to reach a target.

Grade Calculator

Enter your current grade, your target grade, and how much the final is worth, then select Calculate.

How this is calculated

Your overall grade is a weighted mix of your current grade and your final exam score: overall = current × (1 − w) + final × w Solving for the final exam score you need: needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ⁄ w where w is the final's weight as a fraction.

Examples

With a current grade of 88%, a target of 85%, and a final worth 40% of the course, you need at least 80.5% on the final.

About this calculation

This assumes your "current grade" already reflects everything except the final exam, weighted correctly. If the result is 0% or below, your target is already guaranteed; if it's above 100%, it isn't reachable with a normal exam score.

Frequently asked questions

What if the calculator says I need less than 0%?

That means your current grade already guarantees your target, regardless of your final exam score — you've already reached your goal.

What if it says I need more than 100%?

That target isn't reachable with a normal exam score given your current grade and the final's weight — you'd need extra credit or a grade change elsewhere in the course.
